The BBC,as usual, has come up trumps with an excellent article here... BBC website. The locally important Senegalese fishing industry is being hard hit by an 'invasion' of foreign owned boats to their waters. Fish stocks are being rapidly depleted despite strict government regulation and lthis means that ocal fishing towns are suffering significant drops in their incomes. This is then compunded by the classic development barrier of poor infrastructure which limits the fishermen’s ability to sell the fish that they do catch in the more lucrative urban markets.
